About Vivian Kapusta

Vivian Kapusta Art quilts: complex and intriguing! Nature is my mentor, with its beauty and layers of mystery.

I started sewing when old enough to reach the treadle on my grandmothers abandoned machine. Six decades later, my first quilt was traditional, now my quilts are my own designs. They often lead me, taking on a life of their own. A friend introduced me to painting on cloth. My love of watercolor painting came flowing back. Now I paint images on cloth with dye and enhance them with free motion stitching using my long arm. I explore many techniques in one project.

My background includes a Home Economics degree with a major in textiles and design. Later, I painted with water-colours, taking courses with the Federation of Canadian Artists. I have taught sewing and quilting at High School, Continuing Education as well as at provincial Home Economics conferences. Now retired, I travel and play in my studio!
