About Patricia (Patti) Dance

Patricia (Patti) Dance My working career, the one that paid the bills, was very scientific in nature. I worked for 35 years as a laboratory technologist. This field of work demanded a lot of accuracy and precision when performing patient testing. To balance that work, I needed to find a passion that provided release for my creative side. After trying many mediums, I ended up with two that had staying power. Although, on the surface, my choices may seem quite unrelated, they actually have a lot in common. I quilt, favouring contemporary art quilts, and do stained glass. Both mediums rely on the use of colour, line, and texture as design elements. They both require precision work, which must be a holdover from my lab work. My greatest influences are found in nature. Those who know me well will say that I have a "thing" for northern lights, trees, autumn leaves and bears.

Although my beginnings into the quilting world were self taught, I have taken numerous classes which have included: colour theory, batik, foundation piecing, beading, and numerous other methods of embellishment.

I have had quilts accepted into the CQA National Juried shows in 2012, 2015, and 2016.

In 2012 I was awarded first place in the "Originally Interpreted Traditional Wall Quilt" category.

I have also had a quilt selected to travel in the United States with the 2011 "O Canada" exhibit. The quilt appeared in shows in Long Beach, Cincinnati, and Houston.
