About Karlie McChesney
Karlie is a full time artist with a BEd (Art Major) from the University of British Columbia, and a MEd (Studio Art Practices) from the University of Victoria. She is an artist who works with a variety of media when producing her work. Her studio is located in Chilliwack, B.C.
Inspiration always starts with an observation of something geometric that draws me in and is open to the possibility of analyzing a puzzle, using calculations, and arranging shapes of colour. For me this is the essence of my art making.
Solving spatial relationships and views of perspective for the elements in my work has always been easy for me. The planning of my work uses computer software in conjunction with hand drafting. My work is abstract, complicated to produce, and involves a blend between 2D and 3D imagery of various materials, such as: textiles, paint, paper, plastic, metal, clay, and wood.
The imagery for the work is conceptual--what I think about philosophically, rather that perceptual--what I see visually. Presently my work revolves around three series: paths/containers, structural origami and numbers/mathematics.
