About Susan Selby

Susan Selby I have always loved fibre. My first quilting lesson was with my Grandma, stitching a dolls quilt with a cardboard template which was much smaller by the end of tracing around it than it had been to start. I have been making things with fibre ever since.

Family and career limited my sewing time for many years, but retirement has opened a wealth of possibilities to explore with fabric, dye, paint and stitch. I create art quilts using hand dyed and painted as well as commercially available fabrics. I am excited about finding new ways of creating patterns and textures on cloth with various techniques and tools, hand and machine embroidery, stamps, resists and brushes. Quilting is done by free-motion on a domestic sewing machine.

Most of my life has been lived on the Canadian Prairies and I have come to love and be inspired by our prairie vistas. The large views of endless skies as well as closer looks at trees, leaves, flowers, fields and grasses are my inspiration. I am also led to create scenes from travel to other parts of Canada and beyond.
