Settlers were drawn to the Canadian prairies for their promise as “the Last Best West.”  It wasn’t long, however, before the settlers themselves arrived at the more realistic moniker “Next Year Country.” The early years of settlement were extremely difficult even for the adept, hardworking farmers who managed to succeed despite the odds.  It was, however, the ten long years of drought and bad markets that saw so many abandon their dreams in the 1930’s.

Hand-painted cotton, machine embroidery, image transfer, hand and machine quilting.
