Boxes

64" x 49" ©2005

I have lived in many boxes: the one my family provided, school provided, jobs provided, social structure -- told what to do -- meeting expectations. Finally, my creative spirit burst uncontrollably out of the boxes and I began to build my own box, no straight sides or right angles -- listening to the voice within -- believing in my gift. This was my breaking out -- the beginning of my voyage of discovery. No box will fit me ever again. Cottons, wool felts, metallics, metals, sliced pine cones, hammered copper, computer parts, beads, painted and stitched "heat away", netting, raw-edge and turned piecing, burned edges, felting, machine quilting and trapunto, gluing, hand embroidery
