Hope

The story behind the quilt began with a painting created a few years ago in a watercolor course with Glenda Beaver. I had wanted to translate the watercolour techniques I had learned on to fabric. Stretching the fabric onto wooden frames and letting the paint drip as it dried gave the right effect. I wondered how photocopying a painting onto a fabric photo transfer sheet would work. The effect was a surprise and a delight. The soft colors of the paintings reminded me of the pastels of early fresh spring in Alberta. It seemed fitting to insert the word Hope among the pale green yellow of spring as a reminder of what is yet to come and the ongoing promise of the land.
