This ripened rose hip is nestled in a stem of leaves. Though slightly hidden from view, there is no doubt that it has reached full maturity, and will reproduce seeds if and when its time to fall to the ground has come.
The red hip is wrinkled by heating Tyvek. It casts a glowing shadow, produced with a pearlescent oil crayon. The calyxes are machine-stitched thread in various shades of red, with brown and black thread used for shadows. The leaves on the branch are in pink felted wool, which has been machine-stitched along the edges, and also stitched to define leaf contours. The background is a variety of autumn-like hues of orange and gold.
